Welcome
This is a website established to help my dear friend Angela Warner who was
diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on December 30, 2009.
AML is a cancer that starts in the cells that are supposed to mature into
different types of blood cells. Initially it starts in the bone marrow and in
most cases it quickly moves into the blood.
Angela is receiving chemotherapy so that the cancer cells stop spreading but
chemo can also kill healthy blood cells. Transfusions of mostly platelets and
red blood cells are needed whenever her counts fall below acceptable levels
so that her medical protocol can continue until all cancer cells are gone.
Treatment can be ongoing for as long as 2-3 years.
